Stillness
Making Space for Stillness
There's a Japanese idea, loosely translated as 'the space between things' — the pause between notes that makes the music, the gap in a room that makes it breathable. Borrowed loosely here, not as doctrine, just as a useful habit: the pause is not empty. It's doing work.
American life is scheduled edge to edge. No pause between the last meeting and the next rep, the last rep and the next scroll. Nothing has room to land.
Today, put one deliberate gap in your day — five unscheduled minutes, phone away, no input. Not a break from productivity. The thing that makes the rest of it mean something.
